Journal Prompt: Natural ease
Dec 09, 2021Stream of consciousness journalling can be a remarkable way to connect with the wisdom that's right there within your body; to connect with your inner wisdom.
Stream of consciousness journalling is a way of expressing yourself that intentionally breaks the rules of language, so that deep knowing and truth might come forward that perhaps would otherwise be edited or filtered out when following cultural rules normally present in the rules of communication (like politeness, political correctness, reason & logic, or someone other than you being "the expert").
If you'd like to you, you might experiment with the following prompt by using stream of consciousness writing.
Here are some suggested guidelines:
(but of course, please do something different if that's what feels right and safe to you)
- Use pen and paper (instead of a keyboard)
- Decide on a stopping point (perhaps set a timer on your phone for 3 minutes, or decide that you'll stop when you get to the bottom of the page, or the 2nd page, or the 3rd page...) If you're looking for a suggestion, I'd recommend 7 minutes or 3 full pages.
- Once you begin writing, don't stop until you reach your stopping point! (truly, don't stop! this is the crux of this approach!)
- You can use punctuation and grammer, but you might experiment with not stopping to dot I's, cross T's, insert commas or periods, or capitalize letters. Perhaps you don't even finish one sentence or one thought before you move onto the next!
- Again, one you begin writing, don's stop until you reach your stopping point!
- If you find that you don't know what to write, you can write that over and over: "I don't know what to write I don't know what to write I don't know what to write"
- This may spontaneously lead to something. Here's a fictitious example: "I don't know what to write I don't know what to write I don't know what to write, this is silly, am I doing it right, I don't feel like i know what I'm doing, I always feel like i don't understand, what if i'm doing it wrong, it's like that time when..."
- Remember, this approach is suggested, but you can stop at anytime!
- I hope that this provides a helpful tool for connecting with a deep and wise knowing, that's within you right now at this very moment!
Prompt:
- What is something that is super easy for you, like it just comes natural? Something that others say is hard for them, but seems to be so easy for you (so easy that you almost feel embarrassed when others comment on how easy it is for you).
- What sensations come forth in your body when you consider this?
